Attended ELTHAM 2007 - 2009

Gabriella Moxey Portrait

"Merlyn" was completed as Gabriella's entry into this year's Archibald Prize. The subject is Merlyn Quaife; a prominent classical and opera singer within Australia and Europe who was awarded an Order of Australia Award for her services in music in 2013. Merlyn is a great musical educator and Gabriella had the privilege of being tutored by her during her first year of university; an experience she learnt much from and shall never forget.

This year, Gabriella has found herself heavily influenced by the British painter, Euan Uglow, especially in regards to his figurative works; this is on top of perpetual influence from artists such as Andrew Wyeth, for his line and composition, and the greats, such as Degas and Lautrec for their empathy with the human form and condition.
