Attended ELTHAM 1993 - 1998
These prints are taken from Lachlan's book The Lost Journals of Pedro Piscator and other Tales, winner of the 2012 Impress Prize. The Lost Journals is an illustrated collection of tall tales from across the globe and throughout the ages. Tales of daring, loss and madness. From fairy tale to science fiction book review; from desert parable to colonial crime fiction; from Soviet thriller to an early explorer's account of the dry and desolate interior of the great southern land.
Lachlan created the images to compliment rather than illustrate the tales, to evoke the world of the story rather than depict events in the narrative. They are digitally compiled collages of brush and ink illustrations, incorporating up to twenty separate scans. Many of the pictorial elements are drawn from the world around him - the Melbourne Cemetery, the Yarra River, Sorrento and his home. Lachlan appears in several as does his wife and newborn son.
